- Education in Turkey begins academically and formally at age 6. Enrollment in elementary and middle school is compulsory, and a student’s absence at school at this age can lead to his/her parents being prosecuted.
- Formal education lasts for 12 years and consists of the three parts of 4 years each: elementary or (Ilk okul), middle or (Orta okul), and high school or (Lice). The academic year in Turkey starts around end of September with the first semester ending in January and the second semester starting around end of February.
- Summer holidays begin around end of June. From July schools are open on certain days for enrolment but many private schools offer good discounts for early registration.
- For admission of foreign students, some documents such as such as study record matching, residence card and population card. Registration of residence address is mandatory because the school is chosen according to your residence area.
